A while back I built a DIY projecter, it produced a decent Image but nothing that was comprible to comercial projecters. The clearity is good but the brightness isnt so great. I was thinking of gutting it and buying a used OHP and puting the 15" panel on it.
I was also thinking of modding the OHP to accept my MH 400wat lamp for increased brightness?
Do you think I would benifit from this or just go downhill. All the parts I have are the "basic" lumen lab stuff avalible at ther online store www.lumenlab.com 2 frensels triplet lence bulb and balast.
My goal is to be able to use it in front of a fairly large audiance for the purpose of video DJing. I Would like a commercial one but it just isnt in the budget so I want to use this one to get me going.

I'm a relative newbie at this (still researching & building parts for my 1st projector). However, I believe the home-built box enclosure style projectors, such as the one you created, are actually a step up from the LCD on an OHP style ones. That would probably be worse for brightness. Someone please correct me if I'm mistaken.
first step is to use a ohp with a lcd on top its not really bright but it looks ok for basic home movie use .... next is to gut the ohp and put a MH setup in it will be much brighter but you will have even more light leaks witch is bad then the next step is to build a box and use a MH setup in it with the lcd you should get the best image and brightnes out of building a box and useing mh light source.
well last night I riped apart my box to see if i couldnt make it brighter..... after fiddleing with the backmost frensel lense i found that i could almost double my brightness😀 so right now i'm in the progress or rebuilding it to (hopefully) get it all alligned better.

Increase Brightness
I have a metal Halide setup 400w from lumenlab. I really don't know what I would have done had I just stuck with the light that came on the ohp. The light would definitely not been enough. Even though I am pretty satisfied with the light produced with the metal halide, I would like it to be brighter. One major thing that increased the brightness for me was tilting the LCD. Logically it makes sense but I didn't think about it till reading it online here on the forums. If you think about it, when u want, say your laptop screen to be brighter or to increase the contrast you tilt it down so that you are viewing it at an angle. Hope this helps.

Further brightness can be increased by using suitable reflector with the bulb as well as by removing the antiglare film on the LCD. With fine adjustments of various elements of the projector, the brightness can be maximized. Finally the software settings of the LCD can also result in more brightness.
