Hi all. I'm a newbie at DIY projects, and I was looking at building some 3-way or 4-way front speakers for my home theatre.
I was looking at some of the jaycar range of speakers, and was thinking of using for a 3-way:
CT-2010 Response Dome Tweeter >5kHz
CM-2092 Response 2" Dome Midrange 800Hz - 5kHz
CW-2114 8" Polypropylene Woofer <800Hz
and if I chose a 4-way system, I'd also use:
CT-2010 Response Dome Tweeter >5kHz
CM-2092 Response 2" Dome Midrange 1.2kHz - 5kHz
CW-2108 6.5" Polypropylene Woofer 300Hz - 1.2kHz
CW-2114 8" Polypropylene Woofer <300Hz
I have found sites on the internet (ie http://www.mhsoft.nl/spk_calc.asp) to help me create the crossover and thats all fine and dandy.
My problem is that I can't figure out the impedance of the system.
They're all 8ohm speakers exept the midrange, which is a 6ohm speaker. My home theatre amp runs either 4ohms or 8ohms for the front speakers. I'd prefer to build 8ohm speakers but I don't know how to calculate what the speakers will be rated at when I'm finished.
If someone could PM me or reply to this post with some assistance that would be fantastic!

Want some good advice ? don't even go there.
8" 3 or 4 ways are far too difficult to get right and far
too easy to get wrong, they are also poor value.
The calculator page is far too basic for the issues involved.
Build a floorstanding MTM 6.5" two way or a TMM 2.5 way.
The crossover must be designed for the drivers used.

After looking around a bit more... I've decided to go with some 2-way floor standing speakers.
I'm going to use the Peerless HDS 1"/105mm Tweeter and 2 Peerless HDS 6.5" 850467 woofers for the mid/bass.
Was also thinking of a 2kHz 3rd order crossover for the system.
As I'm thinking of doing some floor standing speakers and to use them as my Front mains in a home theatre... would I be better off going for the MTM or the TMM design?

On a simple level MTM is bettter for home theatre
and TMM 2.5 way is better for music.
With 2.5 way you have full baffle step compensation, with
a MTM 2 way you can vary the amount of compensation.
