Its very important to keep mains cables as straight as possible.
Coiled or untidy cables can cause reflected 50 hz signals up and down your power cable, causing havoc with the power supply which keeps stumbling and causing bad audio.
Its all very well polishing the connectors, and there may be some good from doing this but studies have shown that even the best connectors , even 'hard' wired systems suffer from reflections in the power cables.
In the old days, they used woven stocking type covering made of cloth, just to keep the cables straight. Have you ever felt how stiff those leads are, They didnt even have an earth because they knew already, that getting it straight was more important.
So, it doesn't matter really what cable you use, as long as it is kept straight.......nail it to the floor if you need to.
Cheers.

Perhaps nailing it to the floor is a bit extreem........
There are nice little clamp thingies that you can nail to the floor, then you put your cable on top, and fold over the tags.
This looks a little out of place on carpet, and makes vacuuming a pain.....but if its behind the system, no-one will ever notice.

Cheers.
