Hi everyone,
I want to share with you a project that I built recently:
DIY portable musical staircase.
It is sort of a playing instrument
🙂
I wrote all about it in MakeySoundy | DIY Audio projects
Please let me know what you think about it.
Thanks

Excellent concept, I feel that using organ samples could also be very cool, and this would be very interesting to not only to musical therapists, but also possibly to the toy industry, and I also believe that lasers, although they must be setup with each use, are better than pressure sensors, as pads may lead to a tripping hazard. Perhaps a simple bulb setup with a directive reflector could make setup less of a hassle, but it would be sensitive to ambient light more so than your current setup. Wonderful idea, I wish you luck with perfecting it.
Thanks
Here is what I intend to do:
1. Instead of reading the digital sensor signal, I will read the analog one, this will allow me to calibrate for the environment.
2. Add a diffusive surface near the sensor, this will effectively increase my laser spot size and thus reduce required setup sensitivity.
Cheers

That's a cool idea! Get two people on the staircase and you could really get it rocking! A taller staircase for another octave? 🙂
