Can you post how they sound???? 😛 Would be a nice Internet enhancement on the DIY website. Plug in on a channel and listen....
Great job

You need to have some patience 🙂 I'm still painting the cabs. We tested the OpenDRC and found out it has a base latency of 15ms. This is too high for direct monitoring. Still searching for an alternative.
You may have just found out why to my knowledge no manufacturer of studio monitors uses FIR filters.
Very nice job on the cabs though!

Kii Audio and Grimm Audio use them, same for KS Digital and Neumann (KH80). The problem is not FIR in general, as it can be made zero latency. Usually phase linear filtering requires long buffer times, therefore latency can jump up to triple digits.
From what I've heard, most of the time there's a way to implement both linear phase and minimum phase to retain similar filter curves, but trade phase coherency with latency when needed.

It does. Check the specs and you'll see that they're implementing phase correction - Georg Neumann GmbH - Professional Monitoring
As for the KH120, I regard it as a very good monitor for the price. Overall I'd say that nowadays it's rather hard to find truly horrid small 2-ways.
Anyways - I'm closely monitoring this thread as I have a need for a very similar design. Good luck!

You're right but indeed with a bypass switch to go back to good old latency free IIR.
Would a Lake contour 26D be an option? It has very steep "linear phase" brickwall filters.

You don't need IIR to do zero latency. FIR architectures can be made in zero-latency, in which case they'll introduce phase shift.
Lake Contour 26D seems like a pretty feature rich option. Have you got any experience with it? I'm afraid it might be overkill for integrating a 3-way speaker.
Have you considered using a good multichannel AD/DA interface hooked to a MacMini? Set up all the routing via say Reaper and do filtering with regular plug-ins. I use an RME ADI-2 PRO hooked to a computer which does all the processing.
P.S. Steep linear phase filters will require a ton of taps and thus will introduce a ton of delay.

I read this article Seems like a good device and maybe it's a little bit overkill but the second hand price is the same as the opendrc-da8.

Indeed.
I should have said linear phase rather than FIR in my earlier post.
My mistake.
Painting the cabs is coming along painfully. We bought a secondhand Lake contour 26D for the filter job.
Finished spray painting the cabs yesterday. First a week drytime to be sure the paint is hardened.
Next stop is gluing the reflex ports.

Thanks Charles! The paint didn't turn out super deep black but I'm happy with the result. the drivers are also not deep black so it's a good match.
Today I mounted the terminal plates put damping sheets against the walls and glued the bass reflex pipes.

I may post a new thread of these designs, ALSO found a nice theoretical design methodology for this damping questions (WHERE to place HOW MUCh of WHAT).
can you share these info? .. currently building a TL and the damping seems the most sophisticated part of it all
