DIY phono cartridge

Yes, good luck with complex task! Butyl O-rings can be found in many dimensions and hardnesses, disks can be cut for different thickness, holes easily made. Butyl is widely used in cart suspensions, very cheap and easy to source 🙂.

Hey man! Interesting to see someone else trying something in this kind of thing.
Not easy finding any information on the subject online.
Where did you get the cantilever assembly? Japan?

i rebuilt a DL103 using the cantilever off of an old cartridge and some 0,025mm enameled copper wire. Not very happy with the coils, so I’ll be redoing them when I’ve got some peace and quiet. Since then I’ve also gotten my hands on some 0,015mm enameled copper wire. This will hopefully increase resistance…
Also, I redid the suspension bit using the original rubber the 103 came with, a tiny piece of .007 gauge guitarstring. Still too stiff so thinking about fishing gear now.
You might want to invest in some broken/worn MM carts and salvage their useable parts eg rubber, connection pins. I thought it sensible to start off with the humble Denon since they can be found pretty cheap.

Also. Did you machine the body yourself? Awesome job nonetheless.
