[DIY pedal] Replace 12AU7 with 9AU7 ??

I'm going to implement matsumin valvecaster like this.
But 12AU7 is much expensive than 9AU7.
Can I replace it with 9AU7?
BTW, any suggestion for putting a tube inside a pedal?

You would need to drop the heater voltage from 12.6V to 9V. Be aware the 9V version pulls more current to achieve the same wattage in the heater as the 12.6V version.

What are you going to power it with?

Of course, I power it with 9V DC adapter. But I'll try to power it with a battery if the battery can supply large current.

The 9AU7 will take 225mA of current for the heater alone. batteries won't last long unless you use something like 1500mA/Hr Li-ion batteries.

The DC adapter is probably the best solution.

I believe that ost pedals have the tubs horizontally mounted.

The schematic is originally powered in 9V which means that I don't have to change the voltage, is that right? 😀
