DIY near field and bookshelf/sub?

Would anyone have a recommendation for a near field desktop build and a bookshelf/sub build that would sound good together?

Here's the background - my son and I are redoing his room, I just gave him an old turntable so he's suddenly a vinyl junkie. We have a bunch of left over Doug fir veneered MDF and I thought it'd be a fun project to build some speakers.

His room is small 10 x 12 but the setup is a desk under a loft bed and then a set of bookshelves on opposite wall.

Need to do something small for on top of his desk and then a couple of bookshelf speakers on opposite wall. Thinking about a sub as well.

Anyone have recommendation for a budget build that would sound good together? On the near field could even do in-wall (but not sure if there are diy plans for those).

This is going to be primarily for vinyl.

Appreciate any help. Thanks!

I can think of a few combinations

- Overnight Sensations : can work without a sub, they extend into the mid 40s if I remember correctly, I build a pair for a friend of mine using the Parts Express kit and was very satisfied with the result, nice bass taking into account the size of the enclosure and woofer

- Any Mark Audio drivers in a sealed box that can extend into the 80s range and a Voxel Mini Sub, my mark audio proyect is still in the works but there are many good comments about them (maybe you can even take a look into the mini onkens enclosure) but I have built the Voxel Mini Sub and was quite happy with it, it extends into the mid 30s and sound very clean

Cheers

I‘ve used this driver in a few compact designs and would make for a great sub built right into a desktop firing up with a shelf over it or a monitor riser to protect it. It can be crossed over high too so really small desktop speakers can be used and not sound disconnected from the bass.

As a ready made desktop tiny solution, check these out before u build

These are simply astounding and by far the best micro monitor I’ve ever heard……by a long mile
