hello everybody
I'm defenetely not a sound equipment passionate and i've low knowledge about it, while i've benn working with computer, programming and hardware for sometimes.
Actually i feel like listening to music is part of my life, but i can't find a mobile media player which may fit may needs.
I owned a 80G ipod classic as first device, and really liked the high storage features, while the quality of the sound was really low.
When it broken i looked for a player with high storage and good sound quality (and a wider support for lossless format, like flac) o i bought the Cowon X7 120G. The output was great as well as the battery, while the sofwtare, the display and it's build quality were terrible.
I'm wondering, it's possible that, when we have mSata ssd up to 1TB nobody has made a media player using them?
So what about building one? (without too many expectations).
I know that pico ITX motherboards exist and may be very powerful (a pico itx board is just 10x7.2cm) and they can mount a lot of different type of processors, both arm and 32bit (for example snapdragon as well as cortex as well as an atom and even an i3/i5/i7).
Most of them already have two usb ports, ethernet, hdmi, audio in and audio out and their power usage is often between 5 and 10 watts.
Thay also often have a dedicated slot for an msata slot (or at least a port).
The result wouldn't look too much professional and will have a high profile (an ethernet port is higher than most of mobile devices now), but with a good battery and a screen would be possible to build an high storage multi purpose media player, and with a bit of programming and working may be possible to run a custom linux on it, maybe with some sort of xbmc for also streaming via network interface/hdmi/ec..
Anybody interested? Any idea on why this can't work?
Thanks
