Sorry if this the wrong place to post.
I am after charging my ipod classic as i am designing a pcb for a ipod dock with vu meter and would like it to charge also if possible.
The pin out diagrams do not make it clear about charging
Any one got any info on this
Cheers

pin 16 - and 23 + 5vdc should do it. thats how they charge via USB cable using the apple usb wall power supply
Many thanks
I will be running 12-15v to the vu circuit
Will add a 5 volt regular within circuit
John
P.S Once it is up and running the circuit and option for a group buy will be posted via my website.

standard USB is 500mah. I found this site that gives you an idea of what the different ipod batteries and replacement batteries capacities are Replacement Kits and Services for Apple's iPod Battery and iPhone Screens | milliamp.com™
and there may be some useful thing in the comment below here How To Make Your Own USB Car Charger For Any iPod Or Other Devices That Charge Via USB

my wife recently purchased an ipod 4th generation player with her airmiles. While waiting for it to arrive she purchased a wall charger as the ipod can be charged with a computer usb port only and she didn't want to lug her 17" lap top around. She also bought at the same time a kit from China that included several different plastic cases, carrying case, stylus, wall & car charger, head phones, 2 person adapter and a few other bells and whistles for $12. The single wall charger and ipod came first and low and behold the ipod would not charge with the wall adapter. Seems the latest generation ipod needs something different with the usb port to charge properly. Lots of postings at apple and other sites talking about incompatibility with the 3rd party usb chargers. Future Shop has a sign up saying latest ipods won't work with old usb chargers. When the ipod accessory kit arrived she was amazed with all the stuff she got and surprisingly the wall usb adapter worked!!!!!! Yea China!!!! cheap adapters.
I guess before I get to far down the schematic/pcb design route i will have check it myself with my own ipod and do some test connections.
Cheers
