Hi folks,
I was wondering if anyone knows some good literature on headphone design (be it blogs, books, etc.). I would love to build my own headphones but it is really hard to find information on this topic.
It would be great if you could share your resources.
Thanks!
Haensel

I made some in my youth using a set of mil surplus hearing protectors, thought of doing something again with some Koss transducers I have, but this is something that seems to be rarely DIY'd. Knew of no resources then; know of none now. I suppose the resources are mainly company specific and therefore kept under wraps. I'm wondering what you have in mind as your "mental prototype".
Thanks for your help guys. I think it is pretty weird that such a huge topic (just think about all the mobile devices one uses with headphones these days) seems to be nearly uncovered.
@adason: Thanks for the link. Although I am not that fond of electrostatic designs (really high voltage next to your head 🙂 ) this site seems to have some interesting projects
I am still searching for a good book or so but no chance. Plenty of classic speaker design cookbooks out there but no headphone related stuff. That's sad

Just going by intuition here, but I'm thinking that basically you're looking for the acoustic properties of the chambers, whether open or closed. A good book on acoustic physics was what I had in mind before, but your mention of loudspeaker cookbooks made me wonder if that info couldn't be scaled down and useful. I'm not well-versed enough to conclude it as anything more than a possibility. Sure seems like DIY groundbreaking opportunities here.
