Hi.

Handles in PA-speakers: I have used 2 different options:
  1. 100% DIY with a handle-cutout in the plywood and somesort of "box" behind
  2. Store-bougth handles (flip, inserts, metal, plastic).

1) i cheap on materials and typically takes up more volume. 2) is a bit more expensive, less flexible, but takes up less volume and is much faster.

Please share your novel or orginal ideas for handles.

Kind regards TroelsM

Yeah, have done the basic cutouts and store bought. Nothing exciting or new though.

Like the wheel, handles have been around for many centuries, original ideas go back to pre-historic times.

Like many knife and tool handles, this pocket handle shape nicely conforms to the hand, and can be used in any direction, useful for some cabinet designs:

The gentle "U" shape is easier on the hands, more even weight distribution between the fingers.
If the cabinet is only lifted one direction, the handle height can be cut in half.
The DIY handle can use laminated routed "donuts" or ovals for the back box:

Make sure the handle interior is deep enough to accommodate long fingers, no one likes lifting with their fingertips.

Tried a new method. The handle-part is routed out in the box. Behind the handle a "bowl" of plastic that's thermo-formed with a simple mold. The bowl is held in place with a wooden ring, caulking and screws. Looks good and takes up very little volume in the cabinet.
