Hi all,
What is the proper way (in regards to safety) to assemble a figure 8 plug to US plug?
The bulk wire has 3 cores, as well as the AC plug, but the Figure 8 has no ground.
Thanks!

A C7 connector, in the UK and EU, is suitable for doubly insulated component pats with a current rating of a maximum of 2.5A.
There are two connections. Live and Neutral. They are non polarized as the appliance it plugs in to is doubly insulated, meaning there is no path to Earth.
See IEC60320 for wiring regulations.

the Fig8 plug can ONLY be used on double insulated equipment.
If you need a plug top for an unterminated Fig8 plug+cable, then just wire up the Live and Neutral terminals.
Since the Fig8 plug is reversible, you can wire either wire to Live and the remaining wire goes to Neutral.

As far as I have seen Fig8 plug are pre-terminated to a 2core cable. I have never seen a re-wireable version.
You can't use 3-core wire with a fig8 connector. You need 2-core cable.
Why can't I just not connect the 3rd ground wire?

Not to go into the debate about the effect of using an aftermarket power cord, this is an example of a re-wirable version:

You are not allowed to modify a ClassII (double insulated) product. Why can't I just not connect the 3rd ground wire?
Specifically you are not allowed to add a Protective Earth.

With regards to the product, are you referring to the power cord or to what I'm connecting the power cord to? Because the latter is CD player that already has a C8 socket.
If I don't connect the earth wire to either end, how would that be adding it ?
If the earth wire is present then it must be connected at the supply end. It must not be connected at the appliance end so for an amateur setup you could cut it off flush and wrap insulating tape around it. A bit ugly, but not too bad.
Why not buy the correct cable?

I could not find any bulk 2-core power cable. I only found 3-core.
As to the question why not just buy a retail figure 8 cable, I probably should have, but I thought that for the same price, the DIY route would yield a better value. (Please lets not get into the debate of whether an "upgraded" power cord makes a difference)
BTW- this cord for example-

Is the ground pin disconnected like you suggested?
I thought I was clear, but it seems my meaning got jumbled. With regards to the product, are you referring to the power cord or to what I'm connecting the power cord to? Because the latter is CD player that already has a C8 socket.

Do you have a ClassII (double insulated) product?
If so, then you are not allowed to modify it, nor are you allowed to add a Protective Earth connection.
Is that any clearer?
Now to your cable and plug.
A Fig8 plug with cable pre-moulded on it are available off the shelf.
I have a couple lying spare from discarded ClassII equipment.
These double insulated copper based mains connectors are perfectly adequate for powering any ClassII domestic duty equipment.

Thanks for the info.
Regarding the confusion previously, what wasn't clear was why modification to the product was mentioned. My post was asking about assembling a relevant power cord, I never indicated I wanted to modify the product in any way.
