Hey guys/
New member here with a new project. I have plenty of building experience but no audio experience whatsoever. My latest project is an old Zenith (69) console. I want to replace the interior components with an updated receiver and potentially new speakers. The outside I will refinish slightly since it's already a beautiful piece. My question is can I use the old speakers and somehow connect them to a new receiver? I have no idea how to connect old paired speakers (12"+tweeter?) to a new receiver.
Or do you recommend getting new speakers and if so what kind and again how to I connect it all together to use with the receiver? Apologies if this sounds like a novice question but I have never dabbled in audio. I took this project on from a wood working perspective and now want to add the function behind it. If I'm going to do it right I want it to sound nice since I do enjoy my vinyls and listen to them daily but also can't have this be a huge expense.
Thanks guys,

The existing speakers might well surprise you once upstream components are updated - I'd be inclined to try them out first. Most likely they were fairly simple multi-ways with low parts count XO - I can recall severs, that had single cap on small cone tweeter in parallel with wide band woofers. If anything upgrading the likely cheap EL cap to a modern film type could breathe new life into them.
It should be relatively straightforward to identify the input terminals on the speakers and connect them to the new receiver.
If however you decide to forego that, or upon listening find they definitely need upgrading, then any number of approaches can be taken. Keep in mind that in many cases the speaker enclosures were larger than might be required for a small DIY speaker project or designed kit, and many were very leaky .
