Hi , since i'am a fanatic of DIY i'am interested in some kind of wireless network adapter for computer ( i don't want high speed ) with a range of 300 meter minimum ..
Some serial conecting device is a good idee .. since i didn't find guide of schematic .. this forum it's the only solution ..
Thank's eveyone ... Mihai .
P.S : Infrared Camera , Parabolic reflexion mic and now networking 😉

Once again, I have answers for you , but only partial answers.
The Linksys 802.11B stuff can be had quite affordably and they make power boosters for it too.

To get the range your looking for you will need some gain on the antenna. The legendary Pringles can antenna is likely just what you need:

I would expect that you could substitute a length of PVC pipe if they don’t sell potato chips packaged in tubes in Bucharest.
Have you looked for the movies I recomended? They are quite good.

I think what I was getting at was that the 802.11B (G) network products have gotten cheap enough, that it would be tough to rationalize trying to build something else.
These gadgets are Ethernet wireless interfaces. USB adapters are available, but they tend to cause a hit in performance.
Building a serial port wireless interface is an interesting idea. Perhaps a simplex (Xon, Xoff) scheme would work well for your applications, and would be much cheaper to build than a prototype 802.11 box. Keep in mind however that it will be much slower than even the slow 802.11B interface at 10 MBPS.
The 802.11 boxes are filled with ASICS and proprietary chips that would be really tough to source.
If you have a good supply of old consumer electronics lying around your might try thinking about using a couple of old modems with a cordless phone... slow, cheap, perhaps fun to build, but then you run into the distance issues again.

Hi
If someone can supply here a scheme of that Xon Xoff interface .. for serial ..
I'am not interested by speed .. i just want 50 KB /s there .. no more ..
Thanks

for a max of 3 pc's 3com make a wireless lan card that costs here £40. These have a range of up to 500 meters and work up to a speed of 22mbps. Ive just networked out three pc's like this and it works well, once you have figured it all out that is. Set up can be a bitch tho but once done its all plain sailing.
