diy coaxial audio cable

hello!

I had/have a plan to make a goood sounding and good quality coaxial cable. It's for audio signal from Yamaha CDX-596 cd-player to Marantz SR5000 reciever. Cable can be short - maybe half a meter.
So long i've used Profigold coaxial cable, but I want something new and DIY.

But I need a little help finding a good coaxial cable to use.
What you guys think of TASKER C140 professional coaxial cable?
Specs are here <<<<

And these Velleman RCA's kinda feel nice:
Velleman CA053

Thanks for your advice.
Ron

Hi.

Why not use RG58, RG59(also for digital) or RG174(thin and flexible)?

Cheap and perfect for audio.

So you want to take the "digital out" from your Yamaha CDP and feed it into one of the "digital inputs" of a Marantz SR5000 AV receiver?
If you want a piece of advice I would not do it!
DACs in AV receivers are in general not made for HIFI but for movie sound. The DACs in your CDP are probably better. And the analog stage of the CDP is probably also better than the analog audio stage of the AV receiver. But of course you should listen to both and decide for yourself.

You may experience at first glance that the dig out CDP to dig in AV is more impressive, but dont fool yourself, it is because of distortion phenomena you were not used to when you listened to the CDP via analog out.

Going to be fun to hear from you when you have tried both and can tell us what is best in your setup!

yes i wanted coax out from cdp to reciever coax in.

but you are probably right man, i try analog!
I compare both then - analog and digital connections (then i need to make one good analog rca to rca cable too heh)

thanks and i let you know 🙂

Dear all & rnzr,

I was newbie for this thread. But I had some opinions to share.
Recently I was testing some audio cable, certainly must HQ but reasonable in price. At last I choose Gotham.

http://www.gotham.ch/

Audio cable for my DAC output in analog stage.

11001 GAC-4
4-Conductor Cables (Star-Quad)
For my Ver.II Twin TDA1541a tube receifier DAC funish kit. This cable will be standard parts because my ver.II will support AES input. This cable will easy & user friendly to diyers use.

Digital cable I choose, also Gotham.

10070 GAC-1 S/PDIF-Pro Digital Cable for my DAC kit digital input cables.

I test with some ten times more expensive than this but gotham still better in mid-freq, more smooth & high density sound. HF was shiny but not sharp. This will not easy to cause your ear tired.

thx

thomas

hello again,
done with the cables now and the results are here.

the analog does sound better than coaxial! more detail and more air around instruments for sure.

i made 2 cables to choose which one is better
cable 1, pic here
cable 2, pic here

the first one is Monarch's (japan) Oxygen-free copper, Neoprene with Neutrik RCA's, and second is Gotham's GAC-1 with Tasker Profi RCA's.

it's not easy to hear difference between them, but i kinda think that the first one sound little better : )

thank you all for your replies and suggestions!

coax

hello again 😉

these cables what i made are microphone cables.
but now i wanna try coax cable (for analog).

here in estonia i cant get Belden 89259 etc cables so i must find something else (as good as this belden 🙂 )

i found something here:
SPECS and PIC HERE

RG59B/U 75 Ω, halogen-free

Capacitance: 55 pF/m
Sheath: Black fluoride polymer
Dielectric: Cell-FEP, Æ3.7 mm

seems good, or what?
any comments? seems like pretty good capacitance and not some PVC **** sheath.
only, how about copper-plated steel?

greets, ron

Why don't try make this one, bullet plug are also very fine i presume. For non dutch readers, try to translate this site with a program or so, or ask a dutch-speaking friend!
I am planning to make this cable teflon is not a big problem for me nor silver

Now in use RG58/ RG59 also, and tried air isolated sattelite cable, the last sounder dreadful, the first two very good
Gear: Hybrid (tube-fetamp + non-os TDA1541A CDPlayer, 2 way speaker)

Nice building/listening to you all,
JW
