I too have been using a home brew mix of 75% distilled water, 25% iso alcohol, and a drop of Dawn. It works very well, cleans deep, and evaporates fast. I'm sure that the process by which we clean our records will play a big factor in how effective the cleaning formula is. Some people use a spray bottle, other rinse under running water. I like the VPI and Nitty Gritty type of cleaners but could never really see spending that kind of cash for them. I decided to just build my own record cleaner. It's a fully automatic cleaner with auto dispersal of the fluid onto the record, interchangable scrubbers, and a vacuum suction for removal of debris - all powered by a heavy duty high torque ice cream motor. It works very well and best of all only cost me about $150.00 in parts to build. You can see the whole build process on my website, if anyone is interested in building one for themselves: www.jimmyneutron.org
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Great project and execution!!!
I'd like to build something similar in order to clean the mess of 2nd hand lp I've recently bought.
Thanks for sharing,
Stefano
