They will be connected on "outside", when the drive is screwed in the main case. Case itself is grounded only in ONE point to avoid ground loops, that's why any optical drive has the metallic case isolated from internal PCB grounds.when you messure the ground and the cover of the Teac 5010A they are not connected
when you do that with another dvd-rom they are connected
How good are the 24X through 52X CD ROM drives for computers?
I've been using an old 52X drive as a CD source in my shop. I use it to test amps, but never considered it to be a high quality source. I use the ones with two buttons so I can change tracks. The single button ones only eject the CD.
Are any of these worth seriously looking at?

Oh, welll... for a "demo" or "test" use I suggest to get one of these (chinese) controllers, because:
_it sets the drive speed at 1x, and so "global" noise is quite lower than in a normal PC use
_it keeps the CDROM capability of buffering datas, then no more reading errors and so the "reading-phase-jitter" 🙂.
Can't say other things, but I will when I could finish and test my CDP.
AND
Could I (we?) ever get and lay my (our?) hands on a better CDROM drive, like one of the two mentioned Teac ? 😉

IT WORKS !
And it's fine 🙂🙂 !!!
Had to resolve a kind of "ground loop", because output signal was discontinued...
until I removed the ground of the tubes' PCB 😱 !
Tomorrow the tests with my "home" system... because now it's on the basement/garage and I have to connect it to a Yamaha DSP-E492 rear channels' amplifier and my ex loudspeaker system "Aliante CNM Tower" )
.
Here is a detail of the "keypad", made of simple steel bolts 4x16 mm countersunk and flat, running into "canals" (simple holes in the front of plywood "reinforced" by another "plate" always 4mm thick) , a nut to each bolt and a nut in brass finish with hemispherical head outside (both set in a calculated "stop position" with liquid threadlocker )

Ah, I forgot... NO NOISE from anywhere ! Power (3 transformers), D/A (FiiO D3) and its "TTL-to-Coax" circuit... even the tubes aren't noisy 🙂 !
For the conversion I used that simple filter circuit shown on the first page of this thread...
or here 🙂
The controller came from a chinese eBay seller... but it is NOW out of stock...
eBay Italia - Aste online e shopping a prezzo fisso

Hi there,
Sorry to come crashing into this thread like this, but I've found a way to order a batch of CD-5010B-070 drivers (as far as I can tell they're the same as the A version just different speeds supported).
Anyone interested in them? They go per 10..
Cheers,
Rob.

Hmm, well it seems that there's only 2 to sell of a pile of 10. So I'm guessing this is going to be a no go..
Probaly, it's the TEAC dealer in the Netherlands. Problem is: it's either 10 or nothing meaning that unless I get 10 people willing to invest it's going to stay at nothing 😉
Hi again and sorry for the late...
Bad time for finances here, so I'd like to know how much is for one 🙂 !
Thnks

He, isn't that the case everywhere 😉
Still, for the CD-5010B it would be 30 euro without shipping (I see you guys live to far away for me to just drop them off 😛)
