It just might work. I am running component as I wasn't thrilled with the DVI to HDMI connector I have. Anyway, the player is the upconverting LG DN191H. I'll keep messing with it. Basically, I HAVE to have the really tall stretched image to be able to unsqueeze anamorphically with the lense correct?

Yup, otherwise the anamorphic lens does no good--just squishes the image down. You need the anamorphic lens to optically squish (VC) or stretch (HE) the image so that the tall, skinny comes back to normal.
So if your running component, and your player is set to 16:9 or WIDE, you should be able to toggle through the AR controls of the projector to find both a 4 x 3 normal mode and a 4 x 3 zoom mode (which may be labled letterbox)...

THANKS SO MUCH MARK!!
I've never been so happy to see a STRETCHED distorted image in my entire life! LOL! I was obviously excited about the prospect of "constant height" in my own theater and now I can.
I did exactly what you said, switching my projector to 4:3 and the "normal" image setting. The image stretched tall and everyone became thinner.
Thanks again!

I just called Massillon Plaque to order prisms but I got their answering machine. I'll try tomorrow.
Or if any located in the U.S. has a couple of prisms they're not using, I'll buy them!
I guess I'll need to think about making a wider screen now!

OK, ROAR just left here (Thanks again for dropping by, sorry bout the cake!)after taking some pictures of the lens(prisms) with & without the black housing lining...I still think it made a difference but the pictures probably won't show it.
Also we noticed the vertical stretch the HD72 doesn't seen to take all the pixel vertically, there is still some border top & bottom. We were using SW-ROTS which is 2:35 and there was a border still. Oh well, maybe an external scaler is in my future, but for now I can live with this.

Hey guys. I bought an iScan HD+ and its waiting for me at a HT friends place in Ancaster. The HD+ does lots of tricks with aspect ratios, that is why I bought it, to use with a constant height setup. I'm also getting the SDI mod and an SDI modded player, but thats just for quality dvd playback and nothing to do with constant height.
So if I am able to, depending on timing, I could possibly swing by your place with the iScan HD+ and some cable and see if it helps the situation.
Anyhow...looking forward to the CH prism adventure. I am just chopping my AV stand 2" to accomodate a wider screen. Next I have to move some furniture into a closet. Once I get the prisms, I will use a sheet of BOC for tests. Once I test and it looks doable, I will build my 48" x 114" screen 🙂

Thanks again for the cake bud, I'm gonna need to take Emma for an extra long walk tomorrow 🙂
And here are the pictures, we only took a couple of sets, but they didn't turn out too well... first is with the black backing in...
Second is with the backing out...
Some possible CA on the right edge? Correct me if I'm wrong Bud...
Zoomed in...
On a side note I'm 8 frames into your render Bud... only 642 more to go I think 🙂

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Hey morkys hopefully the wedges will be on their way shortly... apparently an order of 10 wedges wasn't enough to light a fire under of them and we have to wait and 'piggyback' of their regular shipment from the supplier... I'm sure it will be worth the wait!
Bud Bray said:...or you can upgrade to an HD72 or HD70!
I'd love to upgrade, but I need new speakers more than a new projector at the moment.
😀
I know that I'll get the best results using less or NO zoom whatsoever. Unfortunately, with my limited throw distance availability, if I am at full zoom just to get a 45" high image. If I zoom it down it becomes very small and basically the prismed "scope" image would be no larger than the letterboxed image on my current set up.
SO, my question is:
Is it worth trying with my zoom at max or close to it?
I could zoom it down a bit if needed, but I don't want to go much below 40" high.
HERE is a DIY speaker project you can try 😀artbypaul said:

With the 7.5 x 5.5" prims I am using, I can use full zoom and there is no problems. My throw ration is 1.3:1 at the smallest setting, and 1.0:1 at the largest, and it works fine...

Thanks for the information, Mark!
I've looked briefly at your speakers and they look incredible! I need to get this lens up and working and then I'll focus on the sonics.
Okay, I finally have no reservations about getting on with the prism project. I will post my results as soon as possible.

You have definitely done a huge amount of work and have been very generous with your information. I really appreciate it. 😀

This could be because the HD72 is a 1280 x 768 Native Res projector, whereas the stretch mode that you used takes it to 1280 x 720Bud Bray said:Also we noticed the vertical stretch the HD72 doesn't seen to take all the pixel vertically, there is still some border top & bottom. I just ordered two 5x7 (J25) glass prisms from Massillon Plaque!
Suzanne is the person to talk to, she knew EXACTLY what I was using them for and she is very friendly and polite.
I just put up a new screen. It looks HUGE in my little theater! LOL!
It's 46"x107", so it's not as massive as some home theater screens but it will be the largest "scope" image I'll have had yet.
I'm sure after the prisms arrive I'll have to tweak it here and there. It's pretty simple screen set-up, just blackout fabric and matte black ribbon for borders flanked by red velvet drapes.
Anyway, I'm very excited!
If anyone has new screen shots of their set ups please post them, I'd love to see them.

very nice... I like the spot lights on the screen... I really like the look (And the function) of a AT screen with the speakers lit up behind it, that is the look I'm going to go for, but my screen size won'be near yours, I'm looking at about 38x90
Thanks Roar! It's going to be like waiting for Christmas for these prisms to arrive. I went out and bought flat matte black paint, some mdf board, black duct tape and wood glue.
Am I forgetting anything else?
This will be a table top mounted set-up so it should be somewhat easier to manipulate the prisms.
My projector also has "edge masking" feature which eliminates just over an inch all the way around the image. So, I'm hoping that will help with any distortion or edge CA.
