Hi
Im starting a DIY project of building a DIY Auratone speakers for my studio.
I found those speakers which have a quite similar frequency response than the auratones

So i want to build also an AMP for them.
Would a LM3875 gainclone AMP would be good for this?

A gainclone amp would get you about 30-40W (depending on power supply) into 8 ohms at pretty good quality.
I have a pair of Auratone knock offs, The Avantone, that I drive with a stereo gainclone. I bought the pcbs for both amps and PSU with Brian at chipamp.com.
The Gainclone is an easy to build amp, but its quite sensitive to grounding scheme. So stargrounding and ONE chassis connection is very important, as always.
Soundwise, the Gainclone is a nice amp with a dryness and politeness about it, a fair amount of details, but perhaps a bit grey. Its not an involving and warm amp, that really makes you want to put on record after record. However, its ok for monitoring purposes.
Some people like that kind of sound for Hifi as well, but I wouldnt use it for Hifi listening. For my taste, I want something a bit more involving like my present Creek 4330 or in future perhaps a nice ST70, but like I said its a matter of personal taste.
