Distance between two class D output filter coil

Hi all

May I ask a noob question?

I am now building 2 channel classD amplifier and trying to layout the chassis with this 2 channel amp inside.

My question is,
Is it ok to place the output filter coil close to each other. Do they have EMI noise coming out and induce to other channel? Is the rule of speaker crossover network coil also apply to class D output coil, ex. we should place the in different direction?

Thank you for the comment.

It largely depends on the type of choke core being used.

If you're using externally gapped chokes, it maybe best to

  • separate them by a few inches and/or
  • have a fence / shield in between them and/or
  • keep the air-gap inside of the copper winding.

However, internal gapping (inherent to the ferrite/iron powder mix) is distributed along the entire magnetic path length, significantly reduces fringing flux and EMI (stray fields) pertaining to choke core. Nevertheless, having some separation between two such chokes shouldn't hurt.
