Set the bias pots fully counter-clockwise. Does the idle current drop?
drops to 1.1amp, doesn't go much until the pots are almost on full, very strange as they were only on about half way to start with, maybe they were a little dirty inside? not sure if this is possible 😕
Were all of the outputs tightly clamped to the heatsink?
no they wern't, i take it this makes a difference?
You can't set the bias current without having the outputs clamped tightly to the heatsink. Clamp them and the bias current will be much more consistent.
still waiting for the SMD's to arrive but i have a feeling i have ordered the wrong ones, i never realised there was more than one size! i ordered the smallest ones (0603), i think i need the next size up. damnn these are so small even to measure correctly!
do you happen to know the correct wattage? 0.25w by any chance?
Mark.

ok, got the parts and fitted them, all seams ok! now it's all built up it's pulling about 1.1amp on idle.. what is the correct idle current for this amp?
The idle current depends on the bias current, among other things. 1.1A is about what I'd expect.
