Discrete components based amp vs Chip amps, which is easier to achieve for n00bs ?

There are Dual Symasym PCBs available now from one of our Members.

Can't buy anything internationally, my current debit card doesn't allow it.🙁

Is there any other way or should I scrap this idea entirely and get a used Marantz SR 5002 that I saw in the classifieds ?😛

I saw some other threads regarding the fake transistors and ICs. Its really sad doesn't it ?

The dual Symasym are both fully documented.
There are at least two.
They are new designs based on the original Symasym and as such are free to all Members.
Even the original Symasym, in it's various forms, is open to all Members.

The AX11 is a much simpler to build amplifier.

Yeah, the amount of components is very less but what do you think about the SQ. I mean, one of my reason to start a new build is to get more power and a more flatter response than the 40WPC Lm3886 amp I have.
I hope the AX11 is better !

As far as guidance is concerned, the two that I suggested have the most guidance and the Leach low TIM amp is the most constructed amp due to the extensive material on the net and its original university site.

But read and re-read and ask if you have any doubt, be it any small.

The parts for the leach are easy to find.

Hi eljoantonyn,

Right said below,

2pair of genuine 1943/5200 cannot do 200W into 4ohms reliably.
Using the rule Max Power equals total device power divided by five, gives a 2pair limit of about 120W into 4ohms.
And because the 1943/5200 has terrible SOA @ higher voltages, the limit (dividing by six) for 8ohms is even lower at about 100W into 8ohms.

I am using 4 pairs 2sc5200/1943 for my 250W amp.

The specs are:

Monitor Supreme 1000 | Downloads Home Audio | Downloads | magnat
The resistance value I measured using the multimeter is 5.2 Ohm btw.

For the speakers you are using, why not go for the DIY AB amp, the Honey Badger. It's well documented, PCB's are available and it's parts are also available in India.

Aniket

The designer of Honey Badger(Ostripper) has made version V2.4 to solve problem of clipping behavior. It is highly recommended. But currently, I want to try amp like TT amp by Dadod. You can search this amp hear, but I want to simplified it and may be reduce the performance a bit. And then I want to try high power version of VSSA with Hawksford cascode on VAS.

Yes, the arithmetic to check if the Retailer is telling lies is very simple.

I would set a target for 4pair of 1943/5200 at 240W into 4ohms OR at 200W into 8ohms.
The reason for the lower target into 8ohms is due to the terrible High Voltage SOA of these Toshibas. Most other equivalents are very much better.
