With the stethesope scope you can very quickly check the entire cabinet. With an accelerometer, you would need to attach, measure, move, measure, many, many times.
Your suggestted technique, if you had a real-time readout (something like your iPhone connected to iMac) you could get an analytic readout as you move the tip around so time taken would be closer to the stethescope than the accelerometer.

And easier to record and compare results, just in case your ears got tired.........for example 😉 Also safer maybe, I know you wear earplugs, but all the same I don't like the idea of sticking the stethoscope in my ear, but that's just me.
Yes. But also adds considerably to the time it takes.
