After doing a cheap and satisfying mod yesterday to the audio output section of a newly acquired Sony DVD/SACD player -- opamp, good output coupling caps, added power filter capacitance, rebiasing -- I started eying my satellite receiver, a DirecTV D11, and pulled the top off it. It looks ripe for similar treatment.
Has anybody done simple mods on these for sound? Any luck? I'm aware that the XM content in particular is way compressed, and when you polish a turd you only get a slightly shinier turd, so maybe it's a waste of time.
Also I guess the receiver belongs to them and not me, and if they did a receiver upgrade next time they came to service my dish or something, as they did last time, I'd have to start over. Hmm.
Anyway, is this a road that has been traveled at all?
