My HTPC is based on ASUS M2NPV-VM motherboard,
It has nVidia's nForce430 chipset and the sound codec is ADI AD1986a HD (SoundMaxx).
It has 6 channel analog output and pretty much decode everything I need.
It also has an option for SPDIF digital out which I'm currently thinking on utilizing for external DAC solution.
The problem is that the SPDIF require an optional module which I don't have...
Is it possible to somehow DIY the SPDIF out directly from the motherboard connector that has 3 pins - it looks something like that:

or you could just use another manufacturers break out module they seem to have the same 3 pin connectorfor example:
