Two diodes in series, 100v PIV each.
What is total PIV across both ? 200V ?
I can't remember, loss of long term

Hi,
I believe that PIV is only doubled if you add a leak resistor in parallel with each diode(10K to 10M) depending on the voltage.
Personally, I wouldn't push it all the way.
Cheers,

A small cap across them would not hurt either, but..........
Why not buy 200 PIV in the first place? The 100 V ones are of a lower grade run than the 200 V ones.....or 400 V ones, etc.
Unless you are using Schottky.

It's more or less just an exam type of question, I'm
not building anything.
So far no definitive answer given
I'm afraid to ask the second question.
scenario;
Ordinary NPN transistor with a V(br)EBO = 5V
(emitter-base breakdown voltage).
Reverse bias of base/emitter > 5V = bad news for the transistor?
if yes
then second question
A ordinary diode in series with base of this transistor reversed biased, the anode connects to base. Diode PIV = 100v.
What is total reverse bias breakdown voltage between cathode and emitter ?

not building anything.
