Design? Ha! I just have a two headed extension cord - one plug going to two outlets in series. Soldered and electrical taped. Plug a triple tap into one of them, and up to three of my old colored PAR38’s that came out of my disco light system when it got retrofitted with LEDs. I have a couple 60 watt regular bulbs for when I need something smaller, which is not very often anymore. Plug into variac, isolation transformer, or direct as required.
Good god, man! Not even a box? or a switch? WTF?!?!
Honestly, that may not be a bad idea. I could make something like that fairly fast and then make something pretty later.

You simply plug the plug in to turn on the amp. You have any idea how ancient this thing is?
It was better than plugging the amp under test in from the other end of a 100 foot extension cord. It’s the same one (except replacement bulbs) used to develop the “KM441” in 1986. The socket with the blue box is original.

Wow. That is a work of art. Very impressive. Shouldn't that be in the Smithsonian?
I must admit, I have no idea what the the KM441 is. I probably should, but I'm stumped. I can't imagine it's the KM441 seat for the International Harvester 656-686.
😀

The KM441 was just my first “real” DIY amplifier. 200 ish watts per channel at 4 ohms, and would happily run bridged at 4 or even less. I had two of them. Everything prior we’re just toys and didn’t really need a dim bulb at first start up. Early prototypes had stability problems and the dim bulb saved me a LOT of money in not fried output transistors.

It took me a while but I finally got this done. I took your advice and kept it simple.
I powered up the PLX3402 with a 100 watt bulb, it glowed fairly bright for about a second and then went dim again. The amp powered up just fine. I then powered up a ton of things that have been sitting unused all without incident.
I just wanted to report back that it worked and to thank everyone for their input.
