Digital potentiometer as gain control - problem

I questioned about the system gain in the first page of the thread and our OP seemed to have a good grip about it. In his video in post #16 there is no obvious distortion at 0xFF, which is 6dB down from maximum system gain by the setup. I think the system gain is well in the ball park.

If that is the case how come his neighbours hear his music at 60dB down?

Well, the neighbors could be a bunch of golden ears, and I could be too deaf to hear the distortion in the video😀, among many other possibilities.

There isn't much data in the thread showing why, beside the fact that the amp was then 6dB higher in gain.

Did you witness a major overloading in the video when the volume control hit FF?

Hi Jan,

I forgot to mention that this would happen when it is at night and everything is very quiet...

But now it is very acceptable with the 100k configuration... With the same quiet scenario it is not possible to hear anymore on the other rooms at minimum volume...

About the maximum volume, even before soldering the 51K there were no distortion that I could hear, I believe it is ok...

I think I'll order the 100k pots, mount it and test everything, and if something is distorting I'll limit the volume in the firmware...
