digital output

Hello,

Is it possible to produce a digital output such as that seen for example on a Marantz CD63/67 CD player (i.e. replicate the optical output) from an analogue line level source? In other words a design for a:
Analogue line source -> ADC -> Digital optical output

I guess that the digital encoding used will be SPDIF? Not sure about this, so whatever is standard for such audio equipment digital optical interfaces?

Yes, you need an ADC. This will include an anti-aliasing filter, perhaps combined with upsampling, an ADC chip, and an optical output; all surrounded by the necessary supporting circuitry.
