I just found this on the internet.

Aparently some guy found a way to scan an LP record using a normal PC scanner and a program he made. The result is'nt exactly hifi, but the thing works!!

Sure is a devious way of extracting the music out of a LP disc! I'd rather use my turntable and phono preamp and record the music directly into the PC as .wav or .mp3.

Hey, I just got an idea! (that means I haven't thought it through very well) You know how some master pressing discs are cut at half speed to lower the demands on the cutter head and therefore get greater fidelity? Well, what about when you are transferring vinyl to CD; you could play the disc at half speed or some other convenient speed while using a suitable bit rate for recording. Then convert the digital sound file to normal bit rate using some kind of interpolation algorithm to make the higher bit rate become 44.1kHz (a bit like oversampling I think) and to restore the correct pitch. You should be able to make your pickup cartridge to things you never thought possible. 🙂
