digital crossover on the cheap cheap

I think what loafmeat is doing can be done with nanoAVR HD ($250)
without having to deal with multiple software and plug-ins.

I have been using nanodigi and 4 AVRs for my 4 way active system.

nanoAVR can reduce it to just one HDMI capable 7.1 AVR (3 way + mono sub).

Thanks to Loafmeat and this thread for alerting me to this HDMI based option.

And can someone please confirm that what I am thinking is feasible?

@zmyrna

I have read also about nanoAVR and think you can do the same with it what I have done with PC.

On the other side with PC and 7.1 soundcard you can also realize 8 channel analog output
For me this PC is also used as HTPC and as file server.
You can stream all kind of audo and video from Internet as well.

With a 7.1 HDMI AVR you have 7 channels and 1 LFE that means 3 way + mono + LFE)

In future with HDMI 2.0 you have 32 channels (but no AVR at the moment)

My only worry is that the surround channels can be blank with stereo signal.
I hope nanoAVR can be smart enough to send the stereo signal to the surround channels.
And I wonder whether the center channel can be used for subwoofer output.

And in JRiver you can map channels pretty much however you want.
Basically, you'd make 2 copies of left and right (for a total of 3 per side), add crossovers to L,R and the copies, then send them to the outputs you want.
