Digital audio and stress

Facts or links to research and papers cos everything I have seen differs....
Let us say, we have pink noise with -70dB RMS. Then, noise level at 3500Hz, the frequency which we hear best, is far below -70dB. So we will be able to hear a 3500Hz sine of levels lower than -70dB. Just make such tests, i could use Cool Edit 96 and upload wave files here, if i was in Windows now. But in a pure 16bit system, if sine level is below -98dB, we hear nothing, nada. If we raise it by one dB, we suddenly hear ugly noise.

So which system is better behaved, digital or analogue? Most of us were born with ten digits and looking like a big maggot (not racistic -- are there black maggots?).

I'd be inclined to think parody there also, if I didn't know a couple of guys in real life (with fairly technical jobs) who frequently display this same type of pseudo-random thought patterns. They're both dear old friends, but I catch myself cocking my head at them like Nipper.

And now I have to go find my Maglite, so I can go spelunking in the closet for my old Freak Brothers comix. Thanks, guys.

I do believe reality is against you on this, why try to prove something that isn't so just because you want it to be.....

I was so over all that jumpng up and down and flipping discs, cleaning discs, worrying about discs. CDs were so much easier. Then I put all my CDs onto a hard drive, 1000s of tracks at the touch of a button. Hurray!

But I found that having easy random access to my entire collection made me less relaxed. I was always searching for something to cool to play, that song, that album, that something. ADD - arrggh! Going back to spinning vinyl made me relax and listen to an entire album. To enjoy the journey. If you have the discipline to not jump around from track to track on the music server, I say Bravo! I can't do it.

For background music, I stream from the interwebs. No worries.

:cheers::up::up:

As does every other digital recording system.
No. We heard a Dire Straits CD, on which there was a very soft intro fade in or what. Sebastian turned the volume knob far to the right, and i heard pronounced quantization noise.

What are thou trying to prove, See You? That a 1927 Ford is the perfect car, and that mankind could not do without cars?

I do believe reality is against you on this
I do not want to believe, i want to know. (Friedrich Nietsche)

Unlikely in the extreme. First, it's the default so the engineer (for a major company) would have to affirmatively disable it. Second, mikes and preamps give it to you for free.

More likely is that you're taking parody or abject ignorance too seriously.

I'm using Wavelab and Cubase and dither is off by default on those. That said I've never heard any difference with or without dither.
Your completely right about the noise from the microphone and preamps.

A bit oftopic: Are there recordings without any distortion added, either linear or non linear?
I could not think of any, maybe there are some recordings made with high voltage noise measuring mics?

Now, are those analog pseudo-random thought patterns, or digital pseudo-random thought patterns?

Because, you know, digital pseudo-random thought patterns are more pseudo and less random than analog pseudo-random thought patterns are...
