Digikey-Free Shipping to Australia

Digikey is offering free shipping on orders of $200 AUD.

But has anyone down under had any success or any difficulties getting it with their online ordering system?

I am currently having a dispute with them and it would help to hear of others' experience.

Thanks.

Problem now resolved - good customer service!

For folks down under be aware that the free shipping is not just dependent on the threshold value, the order must also be processed in AUD.

Depending how you place your order (I uploaded a file) the website may revert to USD and you need to change it back and make sure it sticks.

So just be careful with it or you'll get a nasty surprise when you receive the invoice.

Thought I'd check this out so just did a test order on Digikey:

USD $ 217.59
then changed currency on the order and it became
AUD $ 243.52

So $1.00 AUD gives $0.894 USD

Commonwealth bank is currently quoting $1.00 AUD gives $0.955 USD

So you're paying about 6.9% for the Digikey conversion.

Which is still pretty reasonable because a USD purchase on an Australian Amex card costs about 3% in conversion charges.

And the point was that the free shipping is dependent on ordering in AUD.

Digikey AUD/USD

Now that the Aussie dollar is at 1.065 - have you looked at the unit prices for Australian shipping ?

Can you tell me if you think it is reasonable ? Do they have to pay for any clearance fees or brokerage fees when receiving money using an AUD order ?
This is what they've told me, but still the unit price totals, come to more than USD. ie.USD210 comes to USD234 in Aussie dollars.
With the Aussie dollar at 1.06 I would expect this to be more like AUD199 instead of 219.

Not sure how this is for Australia but I am guessing it is the same as for Europe. As far as I can tell Digikey adjust their "local" pricing once in a while, so depending on the currency fluctuations, their "local" pricing may be very good or it may be a total ripoff.

If you look at the Australian catalog on the website I think you can see when it was issued and when the next one will come out, pricing will then be adjusted then depending on the exchange rate at the time.
