Digikey and import tariffs

Can you give me one or two part numbers? I'd be interested to see what they cost here.

Jan

Sure. These two were ordered yesterday:
XP Power LCS50US15, Mouser #209-LCS50US15
EPCOS / TDK B41231A4229M000, Mouser #871-B41231A4229M000

Mouser added no tariff to the invoice, DK would have added 10%.
(I'm not trying to bash DK here, I lke them, especially for small orders less than 1 lb, for some reason 1st Class mail gets here from there reliably in 2 days.)

Mouser charges 3.21 and 13.46, respectively, all taxes paid. Interestingly, the $ and € prices are identical but the minimum order for free shipping isn't - its € 50 and $ 60.

Interesting.

I imagine bootleggers would use that option.... pull my boat up next to your ship and just drop it over the side 🙂
🙂
What it means is that they deliver it on the dock, and it's your responsibility from there on, to get it on a ship, or, more likely, a truck.
That also means that you should insure it from then on, its out of their hands and your responsibility once FAS.

Just checked the last orders for digikey and mouser - the same with the UK. Both over the minimum so don’t get hit by the surcharge. Free shipping and no import tax associated.
There is an option in farnell which allows you to filter out international picks, so you dont get hit by all the minimum/large delivery charges for low cost orders. There is still a minimum but I’ve ordered and received the next morning instead of 3-5 days for shipping US to UK.

Nick, I don't know where you are located.
Farnell (which is now part of US based Avnet) has stock in the US and if you order from that, there's a surcharge of € 25 for small orders.
But not on EU based stock.
I can order a couple of transistors for a few euros, with no surcharge, but I have to pay shipping.

They must have either a partner or local/EU capabiltities.

Heh, with Farnell it’s mind-boggling - they have a warehouse in the UK and a warehouse in Belgium, but to end users (without VAT ID) in the EU they will only ship from the UK. The system lets you place an order regardless of the stock allocation, so it’s already happened to me a couple of times that I ordered something, then received an email asking for a VAT ID because the desired item was stocked in Liege (BE), I replied I didn’t have one, so they just cancelled the order… 😛
