This is just a thought on what the screens on the back of many lcds may be. They may be a diffraction grating of sorts. If you have uneven light hitting the grating, it should be evened out by this piece of plastic (grating). Check me out on this if you want.
Even if this is not what that sheet of plastic is, this may be a solution for those of you with bright spots in your image. A grating will generate a new wave front that will be planar instead of approximately spherical. I piece of window screen might do the trick.
