Different idea for lcd projector

I had exactly the same idea, superbright LED's.
I recently purchased this lcd for testing purposes :

Next thing i will do is build a cluster from superbright led's.
there's only one thing i will do different, everybody here makes
the light bounce on the lcd screen, i imagine that causes a
great loss of light, so i wonder the following:
What if i would dismantle the lcd very careful, and then remove
the backlight and reflection foil, so i can look right through the
lcd?
I know this is never done in a normal lcd projector due to the
presence of heat, but with the leds this is not the issue anymore.
Then all i need is a fresnel lens to concentrate the light from
the leds to the lcd , and a normal projection lens.
How big has the center of the lens to be?
Would a lens assembly from an old slide projector do?
Thanks

you think you came up with the idea of having light pass through an lcd? LMAO

The only way an LCD projector works is by passing light through the lcd NOT bouncing it off the lcd. this is the way it has always been done. you need to do a little reading...

If you read around in the Video forum, Sunnylion, you'll find that the concept of using ultra bright white LEDs has been discussed at great length. Currently i think the idea has pretty much been abandoned using the current commercially availible LEDs because ( and this is paraphrasing from a recent post on this topic) a 1000 lumen light source was going to cost in the realm of $3000.

There are much cheaper ways of getting a much greater amount of light in your projector.

Keep coming up with ideas though, because there only seem to be about 3 ways of doing DIY projectors right now, and we could always use another.

SAME THING....

Hi there. I have been discussing this a lot lately with zark and mustafa. I'm gonna go buy two lights of America lights at 6K lumes each. ($30.00 each) DOH. Use those. You probbaly wont find a cheaper more reliable source. LED light are over expensive. All you have to do is angle them correctly in a box right behind the LCD (I have the EXACT same one as you). It will shine through. Try using the backlight for kicks. It actually works a little bit witha Delta IV lens.

light source lcd projector

I did something different today.
I tried using an array of 6 energy saving lamps, providing
a source or 1500 lumen each.
I installed 8 sockets, so i can upgrade to 8 lamps if needed.
behind those i mounted a few pieces of mirror, that way
the light gets concentrated right in the center of a filter.
The output is a nice bright square on my wall, almost
to strong to look into.
Tomorrow i will build an experimental housing to mount
the lamp array in.
I will need another fresnel lens to spread the light equally
over the lcd.
I don't think i will need a fan with this system, and as i used
standard screw in sockets, i can easily put a stronger lamp in
if one comes available, plus there will be no need for
a special ballast.
Now i still need a good lens, preferred one with zoom.
I will install a small plate on the back for power in and composite
video in.
What exactly do you mean with using the backlight for kicks, i don't get that completely?
I keep you posted of the progress.
