Hi,
I have a Rega Mira 1 but it is "falling apart" (rca plugs falling off when dismounting cables and input and volume dials are noisy).
Now I have the oppurtunity to buy a Rega Elex 1 and it looks the same so my question is basically what's the difference between those 2 - like output power, sound quality, features etc..

Basically the Mira has remote control and slightly more power. I have owned an Elex and currently own a Mira (both Mk II).
I only went to the Mira because I wanted remote control, but it does have that extra power. Plus you have pre-amp out and main-in sockets (there's an internal switch to bypass them).
Rega Elex (specs from manual):
Input Specification
Tape Input Sensitivity : 205mV (Load 18kOhm)
Aux Input Sensitivity : 205mV (Load 18kOhm)
Tuner Input Sensitivity : 205mV (Load 18kOhm)
CD Input Sensitivity : 390mV (Load 30kOhm)
Disc (Moving magnet) : 3mV (Load 47kOhm) Max input level 104mV
Output Specification
Power Output :
35W into 8 Ohm load @ 1kHz or
57W into 4 Ohm load @ 1kHz
Tape Output :
345mV (10kOhm load) with rated input sensitivity
Power Consumption :
125 Watts with max output
17 Watts Quiescent
=======================
Mira 2000
As far as I can tell from circuit this is almost identical to Mira II except for input switching which went from electro-mechanical rotary to reed relays.
Maximum power: 61Wpc in to 8 ohms, 91Wpc in to 4 ohms.
CD/Tuner/Line 1/Line 2/Tape sensitivity: 220mV for full power.
Line impedance: 10k ohms.
Phono (moving-magnet): 2.1mV. Load 47k ohms (in together with 100pF).
Power amplifier input for rated output = 818mV.
Impedance 24k ohms.
Preamp output turn (with rated input levels): 818mV @ 470 ohms.
Power amplifier gain: 28.8dB.
Power Consumption 225W.

I've attached the only review with test results for a Mira Clamshell that I've ever found ... sorry it's in Polish!
Hope that helps ...

BTW your Mira Mk I's issues are easy to fix for anyone with some basic electronic (especially soldering) skills ...
