Difference between 12AX7 and CV4004 ECC83 ½

Thanks for the info. I know little about tubes.

What I have to do is to replace the pair of 12AX7 in my power amp [Berning ZH-230]. I found some NOS tubes listed as "Brimar KB/AD CV4004 ECC83½ box plates valve NOS (V29)".

The pair of 12AT7, also used in my amp, has already been replaced with NOS Brimars.

A CV4004 will work fine on the spot of a 12AX7. They have the same electrical characteristics, but the CV4004 is constructed more ruggid, so better suited for industrial/military purposes.

I think that the part "1/2 box plates valve" describes the shape/construction of the plates of this CV4004. Some people find these kind of details very important.
