Related to the patent and similar use of its principles.
ULTIMA! - dynamikks this have been around for some time.
Red Spade Audio PSE-144 same there.
Cowan, aren’t you involved in one of the most fun use of the idea on the planet?

A for Ara
But in the PA world there are a lot of questionable similarities of a few line array implementations from a few brands where the midrange is loaded in to the HF waveguide thru ports. JBL, PK SOUND to name two.
COHERENT MIDRANGE INTEGRATOR (CMI)

What I’m saying is that if Danley soundlabs really wanted to involve their lawyers and have a go at defending the multi entry horn idea. They probably would have done it by now.
But up until very recently, they had no market in home audio or classic line arrays.
So why would they?

I thought the Unity patent expired a while ago (Red Spade), and the Synergy patent was so similar to the Unity that the Synergy wasn't valid (or likely to be valid under any significant scrutiny).
Of course there is also the matter of patents vs. jurisdiction. Just because you have a valid US patent doesn't mean you have a valid patent anywhere else. Even "Euro" patents are suspect in any given European country (..like France which I believe wants a French patent filed).

A for Ara
I know a bit about those 😉
Quite superb if I say so my self, though I'm likely somewhat biased because I did the electroacoustic design.
In a domestic environment they have some advantages over a loudspeaker like the SH50. As a PA speaker the SH50 is a superb box however they were not optimised for a high end domestic hifi application.

- Weight was not a consideration in my designs for A For Ara so the enclosures are very well damped and braced.
- The waveguides are an optimised design and perform significantly better than the simple two step flat panel waveguide seen in most Synergy horns and their clones. Off axis response is very uniform.
- Driver selection was not driven by cost, rather by measured performance.
- The flat on axis response of the SH50 is not suitable in a domestic environment and makes the speaker quite bright when used in a small room.
- Many of the A For Ara speakers are DSP controlled allowing an extra degree of freedom in hitting the target response.

The new MTS series from EV seems to take the Danley approach: The next standard in installed sound: MTS series point-source loudspeaker systems for large venues - YouTube
"..we get a true point source, and that means we've got a single coherent wavefront emanating from the loudspeaker, and that allows it to throw a really long distance."
You'd think they'd be more careful with what they say..

Why should they be more careful? I understand patents and such (actually I really don't understand patents, too often times they don't actually state anything new. lol) but MEH tech has been around for how long now? How many different ways are needed to describe the use of this technique before we all get to use the same language? I quite like the cardioid addition of the MTS. This mimics my current workings for a small home hifi MEH cardiod setup.
I don't know where we're not connecting on that one but surely in order to understand these speakers one should understand the underlying acoustic principles.
Apologies if my post came across in a bad way.
It seemed that your quote-and-post was implying that EV was in some way stepping on someone's intellectual property?
I do understand, albeit rather basically, the underlying acoustic principles of the MEH.
I also understand that there is a difference, on paper, between the expired-unity and current-synergy patents.
They are the same thing imo.
I think MEH offers a superior solution to PA systems, and maybe hifi systems as well, and look forward to a world where sound everywhere is better because of it. 😉

What is it? I've looked and can't find anything that differentiates them.
Hah! I also said "I really don't understand patents, too often times they don't actually state anything new."
I don't know what the difference is.
It has been suggested, somewhere here on diy audio, that the difference between them has to do with the implementation of the crossovers.
I have not looked for such a difference because as I also said "they are the same to me".
I hope I didn't get your hopes up. 😉
