Power Supplies

It is reasonable to buy all new components for a power supply.

My approach may be a little different, but it works. I have found the local electronics repair shop hates to throw things out. This includes repairable recievers and amps for which the former owners decided the cost of repair was more than they wanted to spend. So, these salvagable treasures wait until someone like me comes along and recognizes the value in the parts. Every one of them contains a complete, usually functioning power supply and heat sinks and connectors and case...yada,yada. I have more of these in storage than the wife needs to know about.
Spend some time scouting them out.
It will be necessary to match the VDC to your project. You will get some face time with someone who can and may be interested in answering some of the questions you will have about your project (just don't forget they have a business to run). It's a suggestion.

The method I favor for forwarding your parcels to you is Priority Mail. This method costs $4.60 & provides shipment through out the US in 2-3 days with confirmation of delivery. There are many other options too numerous to list.
The stated rate of $4.60 will use a flat envelope. I will include enough cardboard as reinforcement and foam/bubble wrap as cushioning for the parts sets.
If you favor another method just let me know & I'll do as you wish by arrangement. Any suggestions are welcome.

pistoljoe, I recieved your information.

Thanks Ed - that is a great idea!

Cheers!

Ess, yep, you can easily use some alu, doesn't even need to be that thick, mine don't run hot, and they are pretty small.

You get the aluminium u-tubes which if you had some, you could probably get away with jsut cutting off a 2cm piece and tapping it.

Okay, i've got it, thanks a lot Nordic.

I hope you received mail by the way.😉

Cheers to all.

Hi guys sorry for the radio silence, but I had the wind knocked out of my sails a little this morning... it apears my boy (cat) may have cancer, they are our children and it is a big shock to the system. Still waiting for the blood test results, but I am not too optimistic... I almost speak cat, and have almost never been wrong reading the signs.

I'm doing fine now after a few hours sleep, but I know its going to be a crying fest when my wife walks in tonight again.

Please do not get confused between Greg's schematics/part no's etc. and the DXAMP.com ones as found at http://www.dxamp.com/construction/ .

I need a an hour or two before I can upload the latest version, so just press F5 on that page a little later and see if the version E files are on yet.

I have worked in some small recommendations from Carlos and the boards are going in to the factory in an hour or so, had lots of troubles with doing the gerbers (my first time) but the guys at the factory are a great help. Also they promised to aim for a 4 to 5 day production run so I will in all likelyhood start shipping next week.

Ed, I'll be sending you mail a little later.

Got quite a bit to do in the next hour then it seems, oh and I need to get pricing on some power resistors, for the resistor kits, these will contain 1% 1/4W metalfilm resistors for 2 channels as well as the power resistors for the output side, and the 4 multiturn trimpots.

You surely have my sympathy there Nordic. I'm a cat-person myself.
Actually there are photo's of me in my cradle, where i never had a cushion, instead i had a cat. And all through my life there's been cats, so i know the feeling of saying goodbye to a dear friend.
No matter how much you think you are prepared, it's one of the hardest things to do. Only cat-people know that feeling.

Remember all the good times when things can't be different, and be proud that you gave him a good life.

All the best

The vet said last night the first tests came back negative for all the main bad thinngs, like leukemia, FIV etc... I'm going to fetch him now, there were still a few results outstanding relating tohis kidneys, but I'll probably get that now...

That cat is soo special, he has the feline equivalent of down's syndrome, he is extremely loving like a 2 year old todler, always following me arround, talking incesantly at times, and standing on his back legs with his arms stretched up, so I can pick him up...

So here is hopeing for good news when I get there, it was so sad when we had to put his mommy down in march.

Be back in a bit.

No real news on the cat yet.

I will try to have the catalog activated by this afternoon.

Registered international airmail will be $7.5 up to 100 gram.

If we can get 10 US groupbuyers who wants to ship through Ed, I can add that funds together and courier it to him. I believe it is a 2-day courier, this would add a margin of safety in getting your things too. You would still need to pay Ed then, for shipping from him to you.

Also, please give me a hands up if you want resistor kits, these are more expensive than I thought at first, as I was overlooking the more expensive parts like the trimpots and zeners.
The kit includes all resistors needed for the PCBs and bias servos.
It inlcudes the 10 zener diodes and 4 multiturn trimpots.
You still need 2 10w+ 10R resistors for bias adjusting, during setup.

I'll take the enough resistor kits for two stereo PCB boards. Also, if you have heatsinks available, I'll take as many as required. I'll pretty much take as many parts kits as you put together. Thanks,

Chris

Thanks, the resitor kit, same as the transistor kit is for 2 channels (i.e. a stereo set).
The transistor kits allready contain the small driver heatsinks, you will just need to find big sinks for your output transistors. I forgot to post the price, the restors kits are $9.99 per stereo set.

Ok awesome. So two resistor kits for me. I'm getting excited to get going on these....Now we need a Piltron group buy......
🙂

Hehe, boards have been sent off for fabrication and should be ready by Thursday or Friday, transistors have been ordered, the suppliers had to fly some down from Johannesburg, so I will get that by Saturday or tommorrow afternoon to start matching sets out.

Still trying to get my hands on a vacuum packer. Will go check the bootsale market out this weekend, actualy it is on the way to the supliers.

I have sent trhough the request to make the transaction processing live, just waiting on the invoice, as they activate you on proof of payment.

Hi Nordic,

now I see that transistor (then with heatsink) and then resistors additionally...

as my first post... please count me in for a pair (Stereo) set of PCB plus any additional parts (resistor, transistor, etc.) that you can include.., please...

Thanks,

Hi guys, we'll be going live shortly, yes dw1narso, I remeberd you said you want everything that is available.

Rellum, you have been sorted out, Jack is busy doing the europe groupbuy payment, when he is done I will open it to the rest of you guys.

Please come back to the catalog over the weekend and next week as I am also uploading a number of well priced, 99.99% OFC, silver, and hybrid cables and speaker accessories. These are also from a local manufacturer.
