Anyone know of a kit or plans pairing an ICE or Hypex modules with a traditional analog power supply? A nice robust analog power supply using a massive torroid, large computer grade caps etc....
Thanks
Thanks
You can power them with a dual rail linear power supply no problem. I would suggest you make it as "massive" as necessary and no "massiver". Search for dual linear amplifier power supply and you'll find more than you'll ever need! Better though is to read all about power supplies on Elliott Sound Products website and go from there.
I built a linear power supply. My advice is NOT to use a toroid or large caps ;-)
My power supply uses an EI mains transformer and Lundahl LL1694 chokes in LCLC configuration with only 8000uF of capacitance. Very similar design objectives to a tube amp power supply.
I modelled it in Duncan's Amps PSUD2.
I have posted info in other threads about this supply and it betters every other power supply alternative I have tried.
YMMV of course - you won't know until you try!
Cheers, Mike

Toroids are best if you need a linear supply. Large can computer electrolytics though? - steer clear. Rather use multiple smaller can types in parallel for lower parasitics (ESR, ESL). Chokes are great - wind them yourself on Sendust toroidal cores to save $$$.

Oh, so something like this.... 😉
