Designs for loudspeakers for party

Hello. I recently build a subwoofer with 18in la voce. Thinking of using it for a party and do not want to risk damaging my speakers. Was wondering if there is a post showing how to build a simple and loud 2 way speaker. Since i do not have a big amplifier it should be efficient. Wanted to try a horn loaded tweeter mid and a big woofer arohnd 10". Any suggestions?

Are you going to be able to high pass your 2 way tops? If you can, that will give you more output, volume(spl) wise, and much lower distortion for clean mids on your top cabs. I'm with Wafflesound on the VBS 10.2, especially if you want lower cost, and a more optimized crossover for music and ht listening, vs high powered pa usage. Glenn

+1 on the Econowave type of speaker. The original designer and proponent of the Econowave was a DIYer who went by the username "Zilch".

The Econowave is a 2-way design with a horn and compression driver for the tweeter, and a pro 12" or 15" woofer. They sound good and have high sensitivity. Here is a thread about this speaker type over at AudioKarma:

I would go two way with a 1.4" throat comp and a 10"/12" midbass for simplicity and to reduce costs compared to a 3 way. 15" driver means a lower crossover point to the compresion driver if the design is going to have constant directivity behaviour at the crossover. A 15" driver will give more low bass output but this is not required if a subwoofer is used. The VBS-10.2 looks good budget choice, a lot more output could be achived with high end drivers but perhaps 105dB/1m is enough for your application?

Do you have a loudspeaker managment system/DSP to handle the crossover?

Here is a photo of the sub i built.

In 2021, the Rese66 says this speaker could be built for $500 per pair. I always thought the measured performance of this speaker to be pretty amazing for the cost. Maybe @Rese66 could offer an opinion?
How the prices have changed, I would have to look up first.
However, the Asathor was developed as a concept without a subwoofer. In combination with an 18" subwoofer, real tops would probably be much more suitable.

I have something in development at the moment with a Beyma 12CMV2 and a RCF CD350 on the SB Audience Horn 225, which is as good as finished. That costs about the same, should be able to play with high pass at least as loud and is much smaller.
