Going back to the original post: Get yourself a copy of Morgan Jones Valve Amplifiers as there is a lot of information on SS PSU theory and design, without too much audiofoolery.
The downside of voltage doublers needs to be recognized, though- worse load regulation.
yes this topology could have poor regulation, but this can be offset by:
1. low resistance secondary windings
2. higher valued filter caps, say 1000ufd caps.
with load currents never exceeding 1 ampere, regulation will be more than acceptable...
