Yes, only the treble and upper midrange is "horned" in most of the designs. But limiting the room sound and directing the driver's sound right toward you gives such an increase in resolution, excitement, dynamic capability. It really has been a game changer for me. OP, sorry you can't go to listen to some. Consider traveling to a hi-fi show sometime. It is an education.
