Desert Island Auditions

Hi, guys.

(Hi, girls)

Here's my query:

What is the one (ONE, mind you) album that you would use to test/audition a new set of speakers?

You know, I've heard a few people say that Dire Straits' "Brothers in Arms" is their choice because it's produced so well, and yes, it is very well produced, but in my opinion, BIA is such a well produced album that it would make any set of LSs sound good. Agree?

Same with The Police, same with, ohh, Bad Company. Same with any Lyle Lovett album. They all sound good. Get my drift?

What I want to know, is, is there an album out there that REALLY challenges any speaker to perform at it's best?

How about coldplay "a rush of blood to the head"...?
any opinions...
there are extremes on this record....
some very soothing vocals...have a lot of intimacy...
and there are some tracks quite heavy and demanding on speakers...i've noticed some speakers loose coherency...especially because of the seemingly large dynamic range plus a requirement for near continuous power..at times...
where as, headphones dint...thats how i compared...

any such experience...

Lou Reed: New York. Getting vocals right on that album is not that easy.

As to Dire Straits, I like to use 'On Every Street', as I think it's much better recorded than BIA.

Burmester CD 3 is also very good tool for testing. Last track has amazing bass.
