DEQX Mods

Hi there, wondering if you can perform any upgrades to an HDP Express II DEQX?

Looking for any recommendations, I've heard of people replacing the clock with a abetter one and
using better caps on the output stage. Regards,

Eli

Hi Eli,

just saw your request today. I don't own the HDP Express II, but my older PDC-2.6p is almost identical in most of Hardware 🙄

If you are using the analog Input (like I do for Phono) and you are able to handle SMDs, the replacement of the original 12.288MHz ADC clock against a TENT application is a real step forward in improving sound from analog sources. Alternatively, NewClass D Neutrino clocks are well suitable, or if you want absolute high end use NewClass D NeutronStar clock.

If you want to go through a bigger component upgrade, then replacing the electrolytics in the DAC section with mylar caps and all OPAmps (by e.g. LM4562) is a nice sounding tweak. (This mod. may be in in your HDP unit already if it has the DEQX HD board version, which you can see by the many red caps. being used instead of black ones).

Another good potential modification (but bigger project 😉) would be the usage of more powerful analog Output Buffers like Sjöström Super Buffers.

Greetings,
Winfried
