The Denon DL-S1 is Denon's top-line cartridge at the moment, so it should sound stunning. They have a very good frequency response - Denon quote 70 kHz as the upper limit, and that's probably pretty accurate. I've seen a review of another Denon cartridge, the DL-303, back in the mid 1980s. The DL-303, which also had a stated response to 70 kHz, produced an almost perfect 1kHz square wave, so the high frequency response had to be pretty good to do that (a square wave is composed of a sine wave, plus all the higher order harmonics). I've never seen any other cartridge tested produce as good a square wave, although these days most hi-fi reviewers don't bother to give them any technical testing, but rely on their 'golden' ears to produce subjective reviews. The Denon DL-S1 also tracks at a much lower tracking weight than most other MC cartridges – 1.3g, versus 2g or higher for many others. Denon concentrated on reducing the weight of the moving section of the cartridge (stylus, cantilever and coils), so they have much lower inertia, and hence track very well.

In general, if you get one of Denon's high end cartridges, they usually sound wonderful, and are much cheaper than equivalent quality MC cartridges from other manufacturers. And no, I don't sell them! I do own two Denon cartridges - a DL-103D and a DL-304, and they are the two best cartridges I own for sound.

😉 Past a week I found a few report / review to this Cart.

In the depth of my heart have a thinking , it was my predecessor told me. Essentally, Japanese with a mind the most best of the thing would not export to other area. So even same products but such international version will a bit different to their native selling. You only see a part of equirement some capacitors or resistors used inside compare to our internation version can distingulish it.

I knew this cart. only sell on Japan doesn't export to other place.

Just seek your comments how do you think the cartridge Lyra "Dorian" ?

There is a business called Audiocubes that specialise in getting Japanese hi-fi components and shipping them to anywhere in the world. Their prices seem pretty competitive, but I can't comment on what their service is like, as I've never dealt with them. They have the Denon DL-S1 listed on their website here: http://www.audiocubes.com/category/...roduct/Denon_DL-S1_Moving_Coil_Cartridge.html . They say that a three to four week waiting period is usual for the Denon DL-S1, due to limited supply. I have heard (in a hi-fi review) that Denon stop making their high-end MC cartridges until they get a backlog of orders, and then they manufacture another batch of them and send them to their distributors. That makes some of the cartridges like the DL-S1 and the DL-304 hard to get, as they usually only manufacture them once or twice a year. However, I'd imagine that they are easier to get in Japan, which is where Audiocubes gets them from.

I'm afraid I can't give an opinion on the Lyra Dorian cartridge - I've never heard of it (or heard it), and I've never seen a review of it, apart from the one on the Needledoctor website. Perhaps one of the other members here may be able to help you.

Yes, there's a fair difference in price. Part of it would be explained by freight, I suppose, but that shouldn't be too much for something small and light like a cartridge. Obviously they have a fair profit margin. Buy from one of the Japanese sellers, if they export to other countries.
