Hello all!
This is my first post on the forum, and after reading a lot of the other posts, it would appear I know very little about Hi-fi too! Please be gentle 🙂
I recently picked up a second hand hi fi seperates system. I only really wanted the amp, a marantz PM4400, but the chap was selling it all, so I took the lot!
There was a Denon DCD-610 CD player included. When I got home and hooked it all up, the CD palyer works, but intermittently with certain discs. On some CD's, it will play the tracks stutteringly, or won't play the first few tracks at all. On others, it plays them fine, but there is a muffled noise in the background, kinda like the sort you get when adjusting a dirty volume control. I have popped it open and cleaned the laser, but that is the limit of my electrical tinkering knowledge! I will say though that it looks immaculate inside. There's barely a spec of dust in there! This background noise is audible most overtly at the start of tracks where there is less going on musically, and my other half can barely hear it at all, but as i'm sure most people here will know, it's one of those things that drives you mad once you know it's there!
So... To my question!!! Does anyone have any experience of this CD player? When mentally tuning out the background noise, it sounds like a very capable player. Having no electrical knowledge myself, would people say it's worth paying to get a repair, or would I be better getting a new CD player?
any thoughts or help appreciated greatly!
