Hi have a denon AVR-5800 that works great. However, the left surround A-B speaker pops when I mute the receiver; or when i change the inputs. I think when the speaker output is turned on/off by the amp - it triggers the pop. I tried the same speaker on the right surround channel - and no pop.
I do see a service bulletin on the pre-amp output that suggests changing the muting transistors. But this pop is on the amplified output. Any ideas? Also - I downloaded a service manual for the AVR-5800 - but there are no circuit diagrams in the manual. Is there a different source to get circuit diagrams?

I found a link to a schematic, pasted below. I tried to attach file, but too large for forum server. Purports to be French, but looks life English to me...

Would you post this service bulletin?
I'm guessing the muting transistors are TR121 and TR101, SCHEMATIC DIAGRAMS (11/13), ~ page 25 of PDF, but you should confirm I have the correct subsection of the amp. This muting circuit ties to the power amp input, so misbehavior would be independent of volume setting.
My suspicion is leakage in C129 or/and C101. With amp not muted, look for DC voltage across R103. Ideally, should be 0mV; compare with same point in other channel for reference. If this is the fault, mute causes pop when DC is suddenly shorted.

In that case, the caps I regard suspiciously are C130 and C201. With muting off, there should be nearly 0mV across R203. Remove either cap (or both) until low voltage is attained. If an elevated DC voltage remains, the two transistors fall under suspicion.
Alternately, if there is no excessive DC showing, exercise muting and see if a step voltage appears across R203.

Thanks - will take a look. Also, the pre-amp output does not pop. It is only the amplified output popping. Does that change your perspective?
